

Foreign language study in the Department of Modern Languages is an enriching and complementary part of the overall experience of a liberal arts education that fosters students' appreciation of another culture and also deepens, by comparison and contrast, their understanding of their own language and culture. In addition to strengthening global awareness and multi-cultural sensitivity, the courses taught in the Department emphasize the critical thinking and analytical skills essential to a broad academic formation. Language study is also intellectually rewarding as it challenges thought patterns and helps students become stronger writers and more articulate speakers in both English and foreign languages.
